Northern Italy - Veneto Region

Verona

The Arena, a roman amphitheater at the center of Verona is famous for its great cultural activities. It is visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year. Festivalbar is one of Italy's most popular music festivals which takes place during summer in some places of historical importance of which the Arena of Verona is no exception.

The Arena is sometimes used as a concert venue attended by many famous musicians like Elton John, Sting just to name a few. Not far from the Arena, you will find Piazza Dante and few meters walk from the piazza are the statues of Romeo and Juliet much visited by many travelers from all parts of the world.

Venice

120 kilometres approximately from Verona is Venice featuring the Basilica di San Marco at the beautiful Piazza San Marco. It is known worldwide for its beautiful and romantic environment.

There are many wide canals and gondolas all over the flooded city. Other interesting sights to see in Venice are: Torre dell'Orologio in Piazza San Marco, Ponte di Rialto, Palazzo Ducale and Ponte dei Sospiri amongst others.

One of the most tourist attracting lakes apart from Lake Como is Lake Garda located north of Italy within the Veneto-Lombardy-Trento regions. The latter is visited every year by thousands of tourists mostly Germans. Sporting activities like windsurfing is very common on these lakes.

Foods And Drinks

The four main dishes in Veneto are Polenta (cornmeal), rice, beans and dried cod. These dishes are served along with sea foods, guinea fowl, rabbit, mushrooms, duck or pigeon. Verona's Pandoro (sweet yeast bread) difficult to prepare is served during Christmas seasons.

This region produces a vast number of high quality wines such as Amarone and Torcolato known worldwide. Every year thousands of people from all over the globe visit the Verona trade fair where Italy's best wines are promoted amongst other products.
