Adventure Vacations

For years the concept of a vacation revolved around R&R: rest and relaxation. What that generally meant was finding a destination that included some form of all-inclusive stay at a resort or a cruise where one could literally eat and drink to his or her heart's content.

Everyone is aware of the dreaded vacation weight gain syndrome. In fact, it has become something of a tradition with Western vacationers to journey to an all-inclusive resort and spend a week of excessive binge eating, drinking, and indulgence in all aspect that would ordinarily not be experienced in daily life.

But in the 21st century things are beginning to change. More and more individuals are starting to become conscious regarding their health, largely due to the obesity epidemic which has seen numbers as high as 70% of Americans being classified as either overweight or obese.

With the advent of the Internet has come the introduction of a variety of destinations that individuals were not previously aware of, and the 21st century has given rise to a new trend in vacations: the adventure vacation.

What is an Adventure Vacation?
Adventure vacations involve the opportunity to see amazing sites, combined with hiking, trekking, skiing, diving or bicycling excursions.

It may be hiking in the mountains of Vietnam, exploring the steamy jungles of a tropical island in the Caribbean, rafting the rapids of a river in Serbia, exploring the ancient Thracian ruins in Bulgaria, or sailing through the various islands of Greece.

These are just some examples of the type of adventure holidays that you can experience. There are even yoga retreats to be found in a variety of exotic locales throughout the world.

While engaging in a sport of choice, one can experience the wonder of various locations, and learn about the amazing heritage and cultures of different individuals around the world.

Inspiration
One need not be a professional athlete to experience an adventure holiday; all that is required is a sense of adventure. Whether it is scuba diving off the coast of Italy or hiking along the coast of Southern California, adventure vacations consist of regular physical activity.

By remaining physically active during the majority of the trip, one can enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, enjoy the local cuisine and beverages, and arrive home without added pounds but rather with a new sense of accomplishment. With the whole world at your disposal, now is the perfect time to choose your adventure vacation.
