6 Tips You Need to Know When Planning For Wilderness Travel

Ever heard of wilderness travel? Do you know anything at all about it? This subject is important to a lot of people, but very few actually understand it. Many have heard of it but don't know very much about it. There are very few who get excited about it.

Let's take a look at 6 important things you should take into consideration when planning for a wilderness travel trip.

First, Be prepared. Bring enough water, food and warm clothing before starting a wilderness travel. There are many cases that travelers fail to estimate the time they can get back and have to suffer hunger and cold, worse during night fall. So think of all the possibilities that will happen and get yourself prepared for it.

Second, carry a map and compass. Carry a map with you at all times. Learn how to read a map and use a compass. Many hikers find themselves lost in the wilderness and cannot find their way back. I am sure you would not want to caught in that situation..

Third, learn how to navigate using the sun, wind or your watch. This is to make sure you can still find your way back without maps or compass if these things get lost.

Fourth, learn basic survival skills. These skills are so important that they may even save your life. Learn how to keep yourself warm using leaves and grass. Identify edible plants and fruits can save your life if you lose your food supply.

Fifth, Learn how to make a fire. This skill alone can save your life. Learn and practise how to make a fire with a match in wet condition such as during rain and snow. This is so essential to keep yourself warm and keep you save from wild animals.

Sixth, Notify others before you embark a journey to the wilderness. Inform your loved ones and leave your itinerary at home. Carry a cellphone with you. Make sure it is fully charged. Carry a whistle too. This will come handy if you want to get help from other hikers.
