The only time you'll be sat in front of a screaming baby is if you choose to take your own, not flight cancellations or over-booked tours. You only have to look at the Icelandic volcano disruption to realize the sense in being able to travel under your own steam and not at the whim of some dust-fearing officials at the Met office.
The world is unfortunately not the same as when the package holiday seemed like a good idea, but these days there is so much to be said for hiring a campervan it really is obvious why more an more people are taking to the road in this fashion.
