There are more than 400 different species of shark on the worlds oceans. But which ones are the biggest?

Here is a countdown of the 5 Biggest Sharks in the World

5. Pacific Sleeper Shark

The Pacific sleeper shark, is a massive animal known to grow up to almost 7 metres (23 feet) in length and weigh up to 360 kg (800 lbs). They mostly live in deep waters and can be found as deep at 2000 metres (more than 6500) feet below the oceans surface.

4. Tiger Shark

The Tiger Shark, grows to a maximum length just over 7 metres (around 24. feet) and have been known to weigh up to around 900 kg (2000 lbs) Mostly found living in the tropical waters of the world they are especially common surrounding islands in the central Pacific ocean. Also considered to be one of the most dangerous species in the world as they can be aggressive and such aggression can extend to humans who get too close of threaten their territory.

3. Great White Shark

Probably the best know shark in the world (mostly because of Jaws) these animals have been known to grow to almost 8 metres (or a little over 26 feet and weigh in at approaching 2300 kg (5000 lbs) Due to their sheer size, and their natural diet of marine mammals, they present a hazard to surface based water sports such as surfing due to the potential for mistaken identities which can lead to bites

2. Basking Shark

The basking shark, can grow to more than 10 metres (33 feet) and has been reported at weighing as much as 15000 kg (16 tons) Luckily these mammoth creatures are filter feeders and present little threat to humans.

1. Whale Shark

The Whale Shark, Not only the worlds largest shark but also the world largest fish. They are not predators rather they are slow moving filter feeders similar to the Basking Shark. The Whale Shark can grow as long as 12 metres (40 feet) and weigh as much as 13600 kg (15 tons) and can be found in tropical and warm water oceans.
