Istanbul - An Incredible Surprise

When thinking of Istanbul, Turkey, you probably have visions of religious edifices and great stone monuments. With a history that dates back to the 7th century, BC, Turkey is home to one of the most unique cultures on the face of the earth.

The Spice Bazaar, the Mahmutpasa Bazaar and the Egyptian Bazaar are also places where the shopper will not want to miss visiting. You will find pottery, jewelry, textiles, carpets and leather pieces galore and are sure to find that perfect gift to take home to the friend you had to leave behind.

I'm certain you have heard of a "Turkish bath". Well, when in Turkey, you can't miss this experience. Enjoyed in buildings called "hamams", this experience combines the comfort of a sauna with the addition of scrubbing and massage.

Does this sound inviting? Be aware that this is not just a luxurious bathing experience, it is a cultural one that will leave you relaxed and refreshed after a day's sightseeing.

Turkish cuisine is exotic and wonderful so be sure to try some of their favorites. Turkish Delight or lokum as it is also called, and Turkish tea are local favorites that you will not want to miss. As surprising as it may seem, the Turks are also quite famous for their seafood dishes.

Located on the Bosphorus Sea, a trip to Istanbul isn't complete without a boat tour. It is quite incredible how different the view of a city can be when you experience it from the water. The scenery is rare and from the sea, you will have a perspective that you would never be able to experience from the back seat of a cab.
